Add inline
With Add inline turned on, the add button of the Table view no longer opens the record form. A new row appears in the table itself, and you fill it in cell by cell. Nothing is saved until you confirm it.
Turn it on
In Configure View, in the Interface section, Records group, turn on Add inline. It only has an effect when Allow add is on, and it only shows for people who can add records.
Where the row appears
- No grouping: at the bottom of the table.
- Grouped: at the bottom of the group where you pressed +, already filled with that group's values.
- Linked sub-tables: the link to the parent record is prefilled.
- Empty table: the grid is still shown, with the new row.
The row also carries the fields' default values (for example dates, checkboxes, selects and the current user). If a row is already being edited, pressing add takes you to it instead of creating another.
Editing
Every column that supports inline editing is editable in the new row, even if it is not in the view's Editing list. Press Enter to confirm a cell and Escape to revert it.
- File fields are not editable in the new row; attach the file after the record exists.
- Formulas and lookups are read-only and update as you type, for example a total before VAT.
- Rollups and inverse fields stay empty until the record is saved.
Save or discard
The new row has two buttons in the + column:
- ✓ Save row: creates the record. Ctrl+Enter (Cmd+Enter on Mac) in any cell of the row does the same.
- ✗ Discard row: removes the row, with no confirmation.
Required fields
When you save, required fields left empty are marked in red in the row, with the message on hover. The row stays so you can complete it.
If a missing required field is hidden in the view or has no inline editor, the record form opens prefilled with what you typed, so you can complete it there.
Server refusals
If the record is refused (for example because of a duplicate value), the reason appears in a message and the row stays, so you can fix it and save again.
Limits
- One new row at a time per view.
- Leaving the view with an unsaved row discards it, without warning.
- There is no Tab to move between cells.
- The form's Required IF rules are not checked in the table; if the server or the form refuses, the behaviour above applies.
- Works in the Table view; Kanban and List still open the form.
